Say Yes To Holiday Inn Express

travel holiday inn express woodland A blogger on recent planning commission decisions in Woodland.

Sadly, the proposed hotel would be far nicer, far more upscale than any of the adjacent homes. Let’s hope Council shows some backbone and votes, like the Planning Commission, unanimously in favor of Shalish Patel’s Holiday Inn Express.

Roadtrip To Yellowstone National Park

travel holiday inn yellowstone park A Holiday Inn on your way to Yellowstone National Park.

Headed north-east towards Idaho. I passed Register Rock, a place where travellers from over 100 years ago stopped for a rest and left graffiti on the rock! Later that evening, my GPS decided to take me down a dirt-track road! I turned around as it was getting too dark. At around 11pm, I arrived in West Yellowstone at the Holiday Inn.

Basketball Hall of Fame

travel basketball hall of fame If you're staying at the Springfield Holiday Inn, check out the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Yesterday, we visited the Basketball Hall of Fame, which was just a few blocks from the Holiday Inn. A few people said that place was dissapointing, but I definitely did not feel that way. I really enjoyed my visit there. There’s three floors in the Hall. On the top floor is the Ring of Honor, which has photos and a few artifacts from the enshrinees. The plaque wing at the Baseball Hall of Fame was much better. On the middle floor was a whole bunch of displays with various items. Lots of Pistons stuff, so that was really cool. The bottom floor was an indoor basketball court and I thoroughly embarassed myself shooting hoops. You can view all of the photos here, and this is a sample photo of me and a statue of Dr. James Naismith:

Ski Trip

travel winterplace If you're skiing at Winterplace, you might want to check out the Holiday Inn.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn hotel. When we arrived, we went to bed pretty soon since we had a long day of skiing the next day. We woke up at 6am and ate a nice complimentary breakfast at the hotel. Then, we got on out ski gear and loaded on the bus. It was about a half hour drive to the ski slopes, but when we arrived, we had to wait a llong time for our rentals. By the time we started skiing, it was already 10:45. The trails were nice. They were on the easy side, but I had fun. I skiied with my family for a while before we got lunch.

(Welcome to) Sarajevo

travel sarajevo holiday inn We've looked at this a couple times to make sure:

It’s cold. But its an a surreal city. First impressions - you get a tram out of train station and there’s their parliament building… in ruins (well just windowless). The tram route into the city is on a road called Sniper Alley for obvious reasons. And although the holiday inn has patched most of their holes you’ll find that a lot of buildings with bullet holes on oneside…! Sarajevo in winter is…nice. There’s not much to do though except hang around the Turkish quarter (which if it wasn’t for the abundance of snow you would thing that you were in Turkey!!) It would be a great place in summer just to chill out, drink Bosnian coffee and watch the world go by… But in winter its a wee bit cold (I don’t think the temperature was ever above 0C and once the sunsets it drops quickly to to -4C or worse) to sit outside for a coffee! And since the city isn’t a huge tourist trap yet, the museums are…on the amateur side. Example?..

Charleston Trip

travel charleston holiday inn Sounds like a great trip to tag along on.

Gina, the twins, and I recently took our first “family” trip to Charleston, SC. Gina was attending a work related conference and so dad and sons tagged along. It was a long trip and we had to stop and play several times along the way. We stayed in the downtown Holiday Inn which was within walking distance of everywhere needed to be. During the day, dad strolled the boys around town while mom attended work functions. The boys and I had lunch at a BBQ place called Sticky Fingers. It turns out that Patrick and Thomas both love BBQ (along with dad).

Room And Board

travel holiday inn goa Some Holiday Inn hotels have great restaurants, and apparently the Holiday Inn in Goa is one of those.

The resort we were staying at, The Holiday Inn , was amazing, to say the least. The food was ummm…delicious, a well laid out buffet with the yummiest desserts I have ever had occasion of helping myself to. And boy! Did I help myself, gorging up in 3 days what would otherwise have been a week’s diet.

Good Service

travel chicago ohare holiday inn Here's a great review recommending the Chicago O'Hare Holiday Inn:

I'm in Chicago at a really nice hotel by the airport--a Holiday Inn that was taken over by a private owner a couple of years ago and has been really turned around. This owner obviously "gets" customer service--I can hardly remember a nicer experience at a hotel, even those much more expensive. Plus, spacious roosm, handsome comfortable furniture, wireless connections in every room, quite good hotel restaurant/lounge, etc. But the really special feature is the 24-hour shuttle that will take guests back and forth to the airport, local businesses, the grocery, the train to downtown, etc.--which means you don't really need to rent a car! Oh, and they deliver a package of ice along with the chocolate mints each evening. Very cool.

Location, Location, Location

travel holiday inn new york soho When you visit New York City next:

Perfect hotel location - Located at Lafayette and Canal, this Holiday Inn is right smack in the middle of SoHo, Chinatown and Little Italy, and a five-minute walk from the LES or East Village. Walk maybe 10 or 15 minutes up Broadway and you're at Union Square. Walk 15 minutes the other way and see TriBeCa and Ground Zero. The rate averaged about $240/night, but the savings on cab fare is substantial.

Japan Loosening Up ?

travel holiday inn tobu narita airport Japanese precision:

We changed rooms after checking into the Tobu Narita Holiday Inn last night, because the first room was too loud. The bellboy came to our room to help us move to the next room. He pulled the bed covers straight, even though we never touched the bed. He checked the bathroom amenity kits for completeness and put the room information literature back in the exact position on the dresser. Only after doing all this, was he ready to carry our suitcases to the next room.

The Bathroom Is Huge

travel inn holiday inn bathroom Funny how a few odd things in a hotel room can throw off your senses.

I also finished "Running Money". It was a good read, and I've placed the author's other books on my Amazon wishlist. I also managed to finish my slides for tomorrow on the plane, so I should be hitting the sack soon. However, I might take a really steamy shower, in hopes that the steam might be able to mute the crazy cleaning agent smell in this room. Oh yeah, Holiday Inn put me in a special handicapped room, so the strange proportions of the room are really wigging me out. The bathroom is huge.

Thanks to a computer glitch, rooms at the Disney World Holiday Inn were advertised at 93 cents instead of $93, according to this article. And, in a move that is pure Disney, the hotel not only honored the mistaken rate, it "decided to extend its offer of the bargain rate in a special package to guests, who will receive the fifth night for 93 cents after staying four nights at the regular rate."

Not Cinnamon Rolls!

travel holiday inn florida Well, at least they had hard boiled eggs and a great trip:

We went to Sea World San Antonio and had a blast. We drove down last night with my (anti) In-laws. Got up this morning and had a good breakfast provided by Holiday Inn Express. No dancing cinnamon roll, but plenty of hard boiled eggs. We left early to get to Sea World, thinking we would hit morning traffic. The route we took was easy and we arrived an hour before they opened. They let us in early and our near perfect adventure began.

Shower Heaven at Holiday Inn Express

holiday Inn Sign If you worry about a good shower at Holiday Inn, don't.

The concerns expressed by consumers in the Harris Interactive survey about hotel showers are not uncommon and all of those challenges in addition to others were addressed by the Holiday Inn Express brand's upgraded shower experience. The aptly named SimplySmart shower initiative is centered on a proprietary multi-function showerhead by Kohler® which automatically compensates for a variety of water pressure challenges. It also features upgraded 100 percent cotton towels; white, hookless shower curtains with curved rods which add 25 percent more space; cotton loop bath rugs; and a sleek new line of bath amenities, featuring a proprietary cinnamon roll- inspired scent.

Holiday Inn Takes Signs Campaign to National Television Audience

Lexington Holiday Inn While browsing the web today, I came up on this.

From Hospitality Net: News.

ATLANTA -- Holiday Inn® Hotels and Resorts launched a national television advertising campaign this week, the first beyond Nickelodeon since the brand ended the “Mark” campaign in 2002. An evolution of the ‘Signs’ print campaign introduced in 2003, the four 15-second television ads feature the iconic “Great Sign” against pastoral landscapes that emulate the emotional experience of an driving up to a Holiday Inn property and use a lighthearted approach to call out two of the brand’s key defining hallmarks, ...
