Sexy New Dreamliner 787
Continental Airlines has already ordered the 787.
And no, that picture isn't coach; it's first class. Coach will still suck, but marginally less so, since the seats are a whopping half inch wider, and there's a tad more leg room due to thinner seat backs.

Flying For Continental
Keep the good times rolling at Continental AirlinesMike started his new job with Continental Airlines in late 2005. This was a big change for us in many ways. He is now flying the 757 and 767. He is still on reserve (on call) but that is turning out to be a pretty good deal. He lucked out, by some miracle, to get based in Houston. He rarely has to work so he is home alot. In fact, this month he has only flown 2.5 hours, to San Antonio and back. I’m very jealous. I wish I could get paid to stay home everyday! Let’s all keep our fingers crossed that all this merger talk goes away!!

President's Club At Newark
What you'll find at Continental Airline's President Club if you're traveling through Newark.
Ever wondered what goes on beyond the gilded doors of Continental Airline's President's Club at Newark Airport? Sure, we all do. Thanks to my Continental Airlines Mastercard and it's 2 free passes per year, I was able to find out last week. The entrance is almost unobtrusively hidden down a long hallway and is guarded by two workers at a counter. You present your qualifications and are allowed to enter.

Continental Airline Boycott
The (long) story of the Continental Airlines gift certificate.
My husband Vincent and I received a $400 gift certificate to Continental Airlines from some well meaning friends as a wedding gift in November of 2004. After the wedding, as strapped for cash as we were, it was pretty impossible for us to imagine using it to take ourselves anywhere for a vacation, especially since we had already booked and paid for the flight for our honeymoon through Jet Blue.

Victoria Osteen Removed
This morning on CNN.com there’s the story of Victoria Osteen being removed from an airplane. The FBI claims she was asked to leave, she claims she did so voluntarily. Either way, the woman caused enough problems on an airplane that she was deemed unsafe to fly. Rather than admit her mistakes and apologize, she’s argues with the FBI’s version of the story? What about accountability?

Joel Osteen's Wife Forgot About Christmas Spirit
Here's a blogger who found the story behind Victoria Osteen's ejection off a Continental Airlines flight.
Seems Victoria Osteen, wife of Super-Mega-Pastor Joel Osteen might not be the one to count on for spreading Christmas cheer! For Victoria, it appears that Having Your Best Life Now means that when you say jump, flight attendants have to ask “how high?”

Missions, Airlines And Money
Not a good time to be asking the airline industry for charity, it seems.
A mission team from Belmont University has forfeited a $1,000 deposit to Continental Airlines. The airline was completely legal and above-board in its actions but somewhat inflexible. The team is now asking for contributions to make up the difference — and each contribution will generate an automatic e-mail to Continental asking the airline to be more flexible in its treatment of groups doing humanitarian work!

Zagat Airline Rankings: Continental Is The Winner!
Click through for the quotes!
Coming on the heels of Michelin's rankings of New York restaurants, the annual Zagat airline survey has been released. Tops in the premium segment include Continental Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Aloha Airlines, United , and American . In the economy segment you'll find Midwest, JetBlue, Song, Frontier, and Independence Air. That's all and good, but what I really wanted to find out was who is ranked tops for food. We all love airplane food here at Mobissimo, so we were curious. Surprisingly the same airlines came up, except Midwest Airlines pushed Independence out in the economy section. More amusing than anything else on the site though are the quotes from the reviewers:

Continental To Help Out Katrina Victims
Hurricane Katrina relief efforts need help
Even before the decision was made to open the Dome as a shelter, the mayor began organizing a team of corporate CEOs, leaders of major church congregations and government officials to create a multifaceted relief effort to provide clothing, medicines and long-term shelter for the evacuees. Continental Airlines and Second Baptist Church have pledged to provide thousands of hygiene kits. Drugstore chains, including Wal-Mart, CVS and Walgreen, are setting up free pharmacy services within Reliant Park.

Didn't Make It
This blogger sounds reasonably happy with Continental Airline given the screw-ups.
The trip to London never happened. However, I did have a lovely 16 hour trip down to Houston and back, viewed two incredibly bad movies while in flight, and stuffed my gut on 4 bags of peanuts, and all for the incredibly low price of $2,000. When Continental Airlines screws up, it does it right. To be fair, they have refunded the portion of the trip package cost, but only the discounted amount they gave to Travelocity. I'm waiting to see if I get stuck with the hotel bill, which I'll know on Monday morning. Continental has done their very best to deal with their muck up and loss of composure during a very mild weather situation (Emily hadn't yet formed and spanked them), but they did break down under the pressure of weather delays. I'm concerned how they'll hold up when and if we have another terrorist attack.

More Travel
More praise of Continental Airlines.
At first I didn’t understand why I got bumped, then I realized that probably had the most expensive ticket of everyone on the plane, and it started to make sense. I’m flying Austin, Texas -> Leon, Mexico -> Washington, D.C. -> Austin, Texas and because I had no advance notice, Continental Airlines did really well on the deal. The Continental employees were much more pleasant than the American Airlines employees.

Airline Hedging And The Future Of The Industry
Hedging oil prices mitigates the short-term risk of price spikes, but it doesn't solve long-term price increases nor does it solve underlying operational inefficiencies.
Hedges also cost money, like any insurance. Some cash-strapped carriers, like Delta Air Lines, have sold their hedges to raise money. Other U.S. carriers, including Continental Airlines, Northwest Airlines and US Airways Group, are opting to forgo hedges and pay market prices for fuel this year. Profitable, low-cost carrier Southwest Airlines still hedges aggressively, however.

Airbus Buying Into The Airlines?
Northwest Airlines (NW), and Continental Airlines (CO), are the two major American carriers to order the 787. With teh 767 fleets operated by Delta (DL), American (AA), US, and UA pushing retirement, the airlines need new airplanes. The next round of 787 v A350 is coming up, with about 30 airlines around the world expected to announce new fleet choices.

No More Paper
Don't usually think of Continental Airlines as a trend setter, but this is a good trend in my mind:
On the cutting edge of this trend, Continental Airlines took the first step a year ago toward eliminating paper tickets by terminating more than 50 of its interline agreements with airlines that don't plan to convert to compatible e-ticket systems..

The Kind of Ride We All Could Miss
How bad can it get?
Ah yes, I was going to tell you about the return flight. It wouldn’t have been so bad had the plane not been so full. It was absolutely packed. I heard the flight attendants tell another passenger that every seat was taken. I’d hate to know how much money Continental Airlines made from that flight - there were well over three hundred people on that thing. There was also this rather large guy sitting in the window seat next to my aisle seat. He smelt bad. And started singing. For half an hour. It was painful, so very painful. People just...

Voucher for Australia
This blogger had a great travel idea. Too bad Continental doesn't fly all the way to Australia.
Houston was humid. I arrived at my next gate. And they were offering a deal for one person to skip the Pensacola flight at 1:05 PM for a ticket voucher good for anywhere in the world where Continental Airlines flies. I asked if they flew to Australia (my cousin’s upcoming wedding), but they did not. So I declined.

Key Contract Vote at Continental
Continental's fortunes rest in the hands of its employees for now.
Using the language of a company with its back against the wall, the airline said that failure to ratify the tentative agreement would mean asking for even more pay and benefit cuts from its workers that could send ripples throughout the industry.
Voting began in mid-March and will end March 30 with results expected Wednesday afternoon. The new 45-month contract would go into effect as of April 1.
The leadership of the Air Line Pilots Association, International Association of Machinists, Teamsters and Transport Workers Union have endorsed the new deals.
Continental Airlines declined to comment ahead of the results.
