Notes From Hong Kong
Good tips for your next trip to Hong Kong.
I recently had the opportunity to take my daughter to Hong Kong; it’s my favorite city in the world since I made my first Navy port visit there in 1985. I’ve seen it before and after the vaunted turnover to the Chinese, and it’s still the same sparkling, colorful urban jewel.

Blackberry Confusion
In Costa Rica, you may call it "blackberry juice", but it's really beer.
After a few more crazy looks from the waiter, we dug into our meals. We were in Costa Rica, where things are a little more laid back, where blackberry juice and beer might be considered about the same thing. They’re both liquids, right? Greg drank the “blackberry juice.”

Old Celebrity Photos
Click through for scads of pics of celebrities on Air France.
Wonderful set of publicity photos taken by the French Ministry for Tourism of celebrities flying Air France in the ’30’s, ’40’s and ’50’s: They were found (not by me) at a flea market for a euro each. Includes Ursula Andress, Louis Armstrong, Henry Miller, Marlene Dietrich, Josephine Baker, Cary Grant, a great one of Alfred Hitchcock, and one of a pre-WWII John F. Kennedy. What a find!

Move Brussels To Strasburg?
Good news for Air France.
Many MEPs, sick of having to place themselves in the clumsy hands of Air France each month, want to end the Strasburg sittings. But there is no way that this can happen: the French have managed to sneak a clause into the Treaties specifying that the Parliament must meet in Strasburg twelve times a year. This commitment cannot now be removed without the unanimous consent of all 25 states; and there is no way that France will give its consent.

Last Stops To Buffalo
Even with Jet Blue, the commute to Buffalo didn't work out as planned.
This last year of commuting has been terrible, I will readily admit. I had stars in my eyes for a while. I would get everyone to use the telephone and email, and for some, IM and video Skype. It would be like I was completely there. After all, we’re academics—telecommuting is nothing new. Sure, I’d need to show up now and then for some things, but most of the heavy lifting could be done through the wire. And when I needed to go, the flight on Jet Blue is only 50 minutes.

When Dinosaurs Speak
Does United Airlines provide a lesson for Don Rumsfield?
when i was employed at united airlines, i was part of a terrific group of people who took seriously then-ceo jerry greenwald's commitment to transform the company... unfortunately, greenwald never gave the boot to all the old dinosaurs and i would sit in meetings with the sorry senior execs under him and they would all say the same thing - "this, too, will pass..." in my mind, it became the mantra for imminent extinction...
